Shido Country Club History

Shido Country Club has been in business for 60 years. Since opening, we have carried on a tradition of excellence that continues to make its mark in the history of our unique courses.

1962−1967
April, 1962

Shido Factory Invitation Committee chairperson Sanehito Yagi approached Mochinaga Nakagawa, Tokusaburo Miyake, and Naotsugu Ishibashi, asking if they would like to build a golf course on an area of undeveloped land in Umagahana, Oda measuring hundreds of thousands of square meters. They came to survey the plot, and began preparations to build the second golf course in the prefecture.

June, 1962

Masayuki Shigeta arranged for Giichi Sato to design the course, and then negotiations began for the right to use the land.

May 3, 1964

Eighteen holes official open.
Former prime minister Nobusuke Kishi visits to mark the occasion and a commemorative tournament is held.

May 21, 1965

Construction begins on the West Course (nine holes).

1971−1999
May 19, 1971

First Japan-Australia Shido Golf Tournament held.
Japan Team: Masashi Ozaki, Takaaki Kono, Hideyo Sugimoto, Haruo Yasuda
Australian Team: Peter Thompson, Graham Marsh, Guy Wolstenholme, David Graham

May 3, 1974

Tenth anniversary event.

March 16, 1979

First Kagawa Open held.
Winner: Tadami Ueno

November 15, 1984

Shido Open held to commemorate 20th anniversary.
Winner: Mitsuharu Tanaka

March, 1994

Club celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Thirtieth anniversary event held in conjunction with the completion of the new clubhouse the following year.

October 24, 1994

Selected as the venue for the Nenrinpic 94 Kagawa Golf Interchange Tournament, 210 senior players arrive from across the country.

August, 1995

New clubhouse completed.

October 20, 1999

Seventeenth National Inter-prefectural Amateur Tournament held.

2000−2025
October, 2002

Twentieth National Inter-prefectural Amateur Tournament held.
Individual Division winner: Naohiro Komine
Group Division winner: Kagawa Prefecture Team

May, 2004

His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito of Mikasa visits.

January, 2013

Chosen as one of the “100 Golf Courses to Visit Before You Die” by golf magazine ALBA.

July 15, 2014

Shido Open held to commemorate 50th anniversary.
